Journey through the Body: Empowering Children and Youth to make Healthy Choices
Journey through the Body is an educational program that promotes body awareness, self-awareness, and self-worth in children. Through the power of mindfulness, movement, dance, yoga, and art, children explore their whole body and learn to listen to and interpret its signals. This supports them to make positive choices for their overall health and well-being.
We live in a mind-centered world in which children are exposed every day to an ongoing stream of external stimuli and demands. Research shows that more and more children experience stress, concentration problems, and even burn-out. These complaints have a direct influence on a child's ability to absorb knowledge and learn new skills and can lead to developmental and social-emotional problems.
It is, therefore, more urgent than ever to teach children from an early age how to stay body-centered. In essence, this involves children learning to appreciate and to love themselves, to listen to the body, and to understand that the body is an organism that knows.
This session will provide you with tips, tools, activities, and information to start supporting children and youth in a body-centered way. You will have a hands-on experience of the method and class-format through which children learn to listen to their body in playful ways.
Journey through the Body includes all learning styles and addresses all aspects of the child. It is designed for children in the age of 4 till 8, and OST staff working with older youth can easily apply the method and information to their target group.
The targeted audience for this session will be for any OST staff interested in educating and empowering children and youth in a body-centered way.
